Under the SBIR & STTR programs, the US Government is looking for qualified inventors and small tech-based firms to conduct research into technological areas of interest at 11 different agencies (5 for STTR). BUT, the concept must also be a demonstrable business opportunity for you (it must lead to the commercialization of a product or service). Up to $100,000 per project is available to investigate the feasibility of your concept; then up to $750,000 per project is available to refine you concept and take it through test & evaluation (T&E). More than $2 Billion is given away, through grants and contracts under SBA oversight, to inventors and small firms under these programs every year. Now, each agency is different, and has varying application requirements including different forms, formats, amounts that can be requested, etc. AND, each agency's requirements change with each solicitation cycle, thus requiring a lot of research on you part each year to assure that a proper proposal is submitted. Also, the competition is fierce with only 1 in 9 (on average -- varies by agency) applications receiving funding. Top quality applications are a must to not waste your time and effort.
